During 1930 - 1940 the women literacy in India was 7-12% only. Mahatma Gandhi and his partners like Vinoba Bhave, Mama Saheb, Pujaya Mota, Parikshitbhai, Ishwarbhai Saheb and many more gave their lives not only to free India from the British rules but also to empower the people of India with education and income generations also.
Our Vinay Mandir is the result of this saintly folks with a vision and dream to provide value based education to the poorest of the poor girls from the most interior and tribal villages of Gujarat. We are blessed to continue these amazing process all these years. We have a residential facility for over 220 girls and a high school for 320 girls without taking a peeny from the girls.
Last 10 years were very challenging with the inflation and lack of Govt. grants. Till last year, we only revived 17 rupees per day for a girl for three meals and all other expense! Now the Govt. has increased that to 31 rupees a day but still way lower than actual cost of providing the basic needs of these girls. Thanks to Nilamben and Jaishriben from Michigan USA to take a deep interest in this institute and raising some fund to help us provide proper meals and nutrition to the girls.
Last year we were blessed to bring Mehta Family Foundation as a partner in improving and uplifting the Vinay Mandir hostel. This building required some serious structural repairs. The building was never repaired or maintained because of funds, all these years. Not only the exteriors but they seriously took a deep interest in the girls living situation in hostel and the educational situations. With their support we are in the process of providing beds, study tables, lockers and better bathrooms to these daughters for the first time in 50 years!
We are also able to introduce many volunteers in Vinay Mandir. These volunteers shares many amazing energy, skills and spirit with these girls. These type of exposure increase their confidence and knowledge.
